We go out of our way to offer your SWISS MADE jacket to a reasonable price. Savings in cost for the material are almost impossible – a jacket is only as good as the fabric. With the other parts such as zippers, Velcro fastener cheaper ones can be used but they will break faster than high quality materials.
17% of all our expenses are used for the high-quality materials. But the biggest spending is for the production effort: compared to countries such as Portugal, Eastern Europe, Asia or Africa production in Switzerland is cost intensive. But like this we can guarantee that no employees are exploited and important know-how is kept in Switzerland. To keep our production cost as low as possible we, our production team in Widnau and athletes are steadily working on optimising our designs. This way we get maximal performance with a cost-effective production. An example for this the unique ROTAUF two in one armpit vent with pocket-function. Nevertheless, we invest 38% of the sales price of 787 CHF into production. After withdrawal of our storage respectively pre-order discount, provisions and shipment, about 15% remains for development, customer service and everything else. Thanks to our efficient cost structure we pull through. This allows us to pursue this path of radically SWISS MADE clothing further.
The Tour Jacket gets 23 out 50 possible points. For the assessment of the environmental sustainability, three issues are paramount:
1. No harmful chemicals (10/30)
Already since 2013 our fabrics are completely PFC-free and produced in compliance with the Bluesign-guidelines. But that’s not enough for us. 2016 we partnered up with the Greenpeace DETOX campaign and therefore renounce over 430 additional harmful chemicals. All our fabrics are tested by an independent laboratory associated with Greenpeace. The last test run of the black fabric only detected 11 out of the 430 checked chemicals. Since we rate our products strictly, the detected chemicals lead to a fierce deduction from the sustainability score. Having said this, the result is still excellent compared to other jackets on the market.
2. Closed loop (3/10)
To reduce the burden of waste on the planet and in the environment, the material from our clothes can be reintroduced in the production cycle. Therefore, the material from our Tour Jacket is completely recyclable. At the moment it is not yet possible to produce the fabric from recycled material - but we are working on it.
The production and the transport of the 3-layer fabric causes a substantial amount of CO2-emission. Our supplier Sympatex sets great value in using only ultra-low CO2-emitting raw materials and reducing transportations to a minimum. Hence the fabric is woven, dyed and glued in the same city. To be 100% CO2-neutral we compensate the emitted CO2 in collaboration with our partner My Climate.
The PFC-free impregnated outer material as well as the storm flap behind the zipper protect from wind and snow storms. The body is kept warm and comfortable by the thick wool fleece. The thinner fleece lining of the arms allows for a maximum freedom of movement yet keeps you warm. The two hand-warming pockets as well as the inner chest pockets provide generous storage space. The jacket can be folded to a small package. It is available with or without hood.

Our jacket receives 31.9 out of 40 points for the performance in social sustainability. It is sewed in Switzerland and we only use logos, velcro fastener and rubber cords with the label MADE IN SWITZERLAND. The zipper for the pockets and the pit zips are either produced in Germany or Italy. The front zipper is made in Japan. The waterproof fabric is developed by the company Sympatex. However, the production takes place in Taiwan and is carried out by the companies Flying Tex and G-Fun. In Taiwan and Japan different terms of employment apply as in Switzerland. For example, it in Taiwan it is possible for an employer to dismiss an employee immediately. But the job market is more flexible than here therefore the dismissed employee should get a new job rather quickly (approximately 4% unemployment). According to our research in Japan prevails a strict employee moral so that the government had to intervene to ensure a five-day week. In Taiwan also a five-day week is formalized. Additionally, a maximum of 46 hours of overtime per month was introduced last year. Taiwan as well as Japan play a pioneering role in the field of labour law in the Asian region. Therefore, it agrees with our conscience to produce in those countries. Nevertheless, the production in Asia causes a withdrawal of points in the environmental assessment. In the long term we want to improve this matter. Therefore we are always looking for alternatives in Western Europe.
The History of your Jacket
The first version of the Insulations series was launched in market in 2015, made possible by crowd funding. Find out here how the jacket is produced!
Pastured in Grison
Warm Thanks to the Sheep Wool from Grison
In the canton of Grison not only ibexes populate the mountains but sheep as well. Each spring time these fluffy animals are shorn by strong men. Subsequently they are released to the alpine meadows.
In autumn, after the sheep have spent the summer on the pastures and their hair has regrown the friendly guys with the trimmers set their hands once again on the animals. This way, every autumn and every spring wool is produced by the sack – which we can use perfectly for our jacket.
Sewed in Widnau
Discover how your jacket with wool from the canton Grison is produced.
Together with the TOPA AG in Widnau we produce our highly functional outdoor clothing. The tireless team don’t only produce our alpine jackets and pants but also participate in the development process of our clothing line. The fabrication of our jackets and pants require great manual skills, accuracy and a lot of time. The decades of experience of this manufacture is a guarantor for excellent processing in traditional Swiss manner. But even this highly specialised business is under a lot of pressure from competitors from low-income countries.
So there are high hopes for the pioneering ROTAUF project. With the goal of offering our product at a fair price we renounce any expensive intermediate trade and elaborate marketing. Telling your friends and family about our sports clothing line will contribute to the success of our SWISSMADE project.Anmelden
