Wams is specialised on the production of functional sports and running wear. The whole machinery and all processes are optimized and adjusted to this kind of production. The company Wams was founded 35 years ago by Walter Amsler (therefore also the company name “Wams”). Today Wams has 11 employees and supplies besides ROTAUF big brands like Adidas, Swisscom, Swissski usw. 

Several 100kg organic merino wool silk yarn is processed at Aldo Nägeli AG in Ermatingen to make our underwear fabric. The circular knitting machines in the halls in Ermatingen rattle for weeks until the last few meters of fabric have been knitted for us.

Aldo Nägeli AG was founded over 100 years ago and is still the fourth generation in family ownership. At its best, almost 200 people were employed on 45 machines. Today it is still a fraction of it. The remaining employees and the boss, Mr. Nägeli jr jr jr are very committed to keeping this unique Swiss company running despite stifling competition from abroad. The boss is also involved in all processes, takes care of and repairs his machines, refills and coordinates all the orders.

With our order from Aldo Nägeli AG, we help to keep these jobs and many years of know-how in Switzerland. We hope that we can reorder as soon as possible.

The majority of the organic merino wool for the shirt comes from South America, a small part is bought from Australia. The South American wool is washed and combed directly on site near the respective farm. Only then will the wool come to our partner Schoeller-Wool in Hard (directly on the Swiss border). After shearing, the Australian wool is first shipped to Asia to be washed and combed there before it also comes to Hard. We don't like that. We only try to get wool from South America from Schoeller. Unfortunately, it's not that easy: organic merino wool is extremely rare. Few farmers worldwide want to adhere to these strict regulations. So that we still get enough organic wool for our shirts and pants, Australian organic wool has to be purchased at the moment.

In Hard, the delivered organic merino wool is then treated in a complex process with washability equipment. This is important so that you don't have to laboriously wash your pants by hand after the ski tour, but can simply throw them in the washing machine. Large amounts of chlorine are normally used for this equipment. Chlorine is dangerous to both the factory worker and the environment. For us it is clear: this is not possible. As far as we know, Schoeller-Wool is the only wool processor who has the know-how without the need for chlorine and who carries out all work steps in Europe.

After equipping at Lake Constance, we go to the Elbe, more precisely to Kresice in the Czech Republic. There, the finished organic wool is mixed with high-quality side from China and spun into a fine yarn. Then it goes to Switzerland, to Nägeli AG in Ermatingen.

There is nothing to gloss over: the organic merino wool goes a long way from South America / Australia via Hard and Kresice to Ermatingen. Some will ask themselves is it still organic? Yes, it's still organic. We do not want our sheep to be treated prophylactically with antibiotics or to eat gruesome concentrate and to be transported 1,000 kilometers to the slaughterhouse at the end of their lives. Our organic sheep are only allowed to be treated with antibiotics in the event of illness, are fed only digestible grass and, in the end, are only driven a short distance to the slaughterhouse. Organic is for the protection of animal welfare, we don't care where the sheep live. The admixture of silk is also a compromise that we did not take lightly. But we prefer to use conventional silk than to mix fine merino wool with synthetic.

We compensate 100% of the CO2 emitted by the transport with our partner Myclimate.

Unfortunately there is currently no way to obtain organic merino wool in the required quality from Switzerland or Europe. At the moment we can't do without the silk either, otherwise the shirt will break too quickly.
