ROTAUF
Uncompromisingly against the current
Tinkering and creating new things have always been the driving forces behind Remo Frei and Curdegn Bandli. The two visionaries behind ROTAUF are brimming with ideas. One is an industrial designer, the other a mechanical engineer. They share a creative, inventive spirit and a decades-long friendship that dates back to their shared school days.
In 2005, the two founded their first joint company, focusing on products and services in the fields of industrial design and engineering. In addition to their professional ties, the friends also shared an interest in nature, the environment, and sports. They were particularly fond of winter sports. On their winter forays, they continually came up with ideas, some of which they turned into reality. This was one example of the ROTAUF avalanche buoy project in 2010. The goal was to develop a small, lightweight gadget designed to significantly reduce search times in the event of an avalanche. The principle involved a red balloon floating to the top of the avalanche cone when snow is buried and attached to the buried victim with a cord to speed up localization and rescue—a "red-up" approach. Two years later, the ROTAUF avalanche buoy project won the ISPO Award.
Building on this success, the development of touring pants for snow sports began under the ROTAUF name. Environmental protection meets the highest standards throughout ROTAUF's development, and the production of its garments is geared towards this. Since ROTAUF's founding in 2013, the initiators have been committed to developing and producing their clothing line completely free of toxins and without harmful chemicals. ROTAUF fundamentally underscored this guiding principle when we joined the Greenpeace Detox Commitment in 2016, thereby committing to the strictest environmental standard for textiles. With this decision, ROTAUF banned more than 430 hazardous chemicals from its production. ROTAUF is equally consistent when it comes to fair and environmentally friendly production. The Chur-based company produces and cooperates with Swiss, European, and international companies that strive for and act according to the same core values as ROTAUF.
ROTAUF now looks back on a history spanning over ten years. The company's future remains firmly aligned with its original philosophy: local production in Switzerland and Europe, using only environmentally friendly materials to keep its human footprint as small as possible.
